Dal canto suo, Calvin ha ereditato dal padre questo faticoso mestiere ma dopo tanto lavoro, con i conti da pagare ed un figlio in arrivo, comincia a vederlo come un peso ed una perdita di tempo. Dopo aver venduto il negozio ad uno strozzino, tuttavia, il giovane comincia finalmente ad intuire la filosofia di vita del padre, la sua eredità morale, e la rilevanza sociale che il negozio riveste per il quartiere. E così iniziano i rimorsi. Calvin inizia a darsi da fare per rimediare il denaro necessario a cercare di ricomprare il negozio.".
